Abstract
Introduction
There is a lack of trained professionals in adapted physical activity (APA) in Europe. The Lithuanian Sports University (LSU) offers a full-time Master of Health Sciences in Adapted Physical Activity. The aim of this study is to analyze the reports from the international expert accreditation panel.
Methodology
In November 2022, an expert panel was formed to review LSU self-evaluation report and conduct a site visit. The panel analysed the APA Program for 2018-2022, focusing on study aims, outcomes, links between science and study activities, student admission, student performance, graduate employment, teaching staff, learning facilities, and study quality management. Data was collected from all university departments according to external international program evaluation form requirements.
Results
The APA Master programme is a two-year, 120 ECTS full-time program that aims to meet the qualifications required in the National Qualifications Framework Level VII. It is designed to provide graduates with a master's degree in health sciences. The program is compatible with disability empowerment research, with the Laboratory of Adapted Physical Activity Research and studies being invested in. Moreover, the university ensures equal opportunities for all students, including those with special needs and socially vulnerable groups. Lecturers are involved in national and international activities.
Conclusions
An expert accreditation panel has given a positive evaluation of the second cycle Master programme in APA in 2022 for seven years. It aligns with Lithuania's international obligations under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities with the aim to produce more APA professionals.
